MOLOBOLO SPRING: THE NATURE’S GIFT OF TUBURAN
The Municipality of Tuburan is located in the northern part of Cebu Province and is approximately 96.7 kms from Cebu City. It is a 2 hour drive from the city via transcentral highway. There are vans for hire in the terminal of Ayala Center Cebu at 140 pesos. There are also buses in both North and South terminal but it takes around 3-4 hours with not much difference on the fare.
The vans and buses stop at Tuburan center where the boulevard is and from there you can take a motorbike or tricycle going to the cold springs in which the Municipality of Tuburan is famous for. Its name is derived from the word “tubod” which means the spring of water. The presence of springs denotes the natural image of the municipality. The discovery of the cold springs has changed the once quiet municipality into a tourist destination.
If you can’t define the word “tranquility”, as the local says Molobolo is the only definition. The springs of this place are the greatest endowment to the inhabitants of this area. The cold spring water is directly being pooled into pools built under the green canopies of ancient trees--making the water much cooler. This refreshing pool water attracts visitors from all over the province and guests from somewhere else. It is no wonder then that Molobolo Spring is one of the town's natural gifts. From the "tubod" flows cool and refreshing water and the air is very fresh in the area. The local government built a rectangular pool as catchment for water from the spring. This is where visitors can take a dip in the freezing water. Here, fresh water meets salt water. If it's high tide, visitors can see the water from the cold spring flow to the sea.
Going to Molobolo Spring will not cost much, which is a big plus for families and friends who are looking for a place where they could have fun together without spending too much. Entrance fee is only P5.00 per adult and P2.00 for children aged seven to 10 years old. Parking rates are P100 for four-wheel vehicles and P25 for motorcycles. Visitors have two options for cottages. They may rent small ones at P150 and the big cottages cost P300. You may bring you own food at no cost, but a store near the entrance also sells snacks and drinks. Taking a vacation need not always be expensive.
Molobolo is not a destination. It's a journey with the person you love that matters.
